What Does SHU Think Of Lilly For Target?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

Everyone knows that Sacred Heart girls don’t go anywhere without their Lilly Pulitzer jumbo planner stashed in their Tory Burch black tote. They paid $50 for it and their whole life is planned in that thing. Well, how would you feel if something you paid that much for was now offered in Target? It’s not just the planners we are talking about here. It’s the formal dresses, the phone cases, and the sorority bags. In my opinion, this situation is tragic. Lilly is the brand you wear to tell the others “Yes I’m preppy, now what are you going to do about it?” This is more devastating than when Juicy Couture labels said “Founded in the glamorous USA.” What’s next? Vineyard Vines at Costco? Now that Target has Lilly, it’s all going to go downhill from here. Now, more importantly, what do SHU students have to say about this uproar?

Emily Creighton, sophomore, says, “Lilly is rolling in her grave right now. Although I personally don’t mind Lilly in Target from a marketing stand point (since it is usually a little pricey), this situation just lowers Lilly Pulitzer’s standards and brings down the brand’s value. When people see a Lilly pattern they will now question, is that real Lilly or Target Lilly?”

Brittany Eger, sophomore, states, “I think that this will make the brand less exclusive. Lilly for Target is now going to be something every white girl is going to wear.”

Christina Rota, sophomore, agrees, “This is going to make the brand unordinary, just like every other thing in Target.”

Maggie Bortner , junior, declares, “Lilly for Target is not something I support. Lilly Pulitzer has been a high class brand for years with quality products. Placing their products in the mainstream of a more convenient store makes the brand lose its unattainability and high status.”

Well, you heard it here. SHU does not like the idea of Lilly for Target. Now we will just have to wait and see what this brand really becomes. Will it remain the Lilly we all know and love? Will it lose its value? Only time will tell!
