Timeless Fashion Advice from the Sex and the City Ladies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacred Heart chapter.

It’s the beginning of the week and you’re staring at a closet full of clothes but somehow you have nothing to wear.  The usual.  It is an affliction that all of us ladies suffer with.  Well don’t fear because four leading ladies can help you figure it out.  I think we all know who I’m talking about… HBO’s very own Sex and the City cast. These four independent, successful women display their different personalities in every episode through their clothes.  Here are some tips from these ladies that every girl needs to know.

Carrie Bradshaw believes in the sole purpose that shoes are a girl’s best accessory. That’s right ladies, not arm candy or diamonds, shoes!  So while some of us are donning our all black and neutral wardrobes spice it up with a classic “it” piece and add a pop of color to your feet.  Wear that black shirt with dark denim plus some hot red pumps!

Miranda Hobbes is all about dressing professional with a punch of personality. Sometimes dressing professional can be boring. Who wants to wear power suits everyday? Shoulder pads are still yuck even if Lady Gaga has tried to bring them back.  But nowadays there are so many funky styles that are still conservative enough to wear in a professional setting.  A blazer with gold studs around the collar and a turquoise pencil skirt (as long as it’s not a mini skirt) would totally work in an office setting.  It’s about knowing what works and finding pieces that capture your personality.

Samantha Jones teaches us girls to step outside of your comfort zone and show off your assets.  We all have that one outfit in mind that we know is totally daring and extreme, not something we would wear on a daily basis. We want to wear it so badly and shock the world with our beauty; we just don’t have the guts. Samantha shows us that we should buy that sequin dress that you could never picture yourself wearing and rock it with confidence.

Charlotte York epitomizes girlie chic showing us that classic style is always a yes.   Certain fashion never goes out of style, like the high waist belt or Jackie O sunglasses.  Having one classic piece in your outfit adds in a clean, feminine look. We could do the fashion world a greater good by following in her footsteps.  It could be as simple as wearing a maxi dress with a high waist belt or throwing on a sunhat to go to the beach.  Just keep those classic pieces in mind. They’re in your closet right now; you just have to find a way to work them into your wardrobe.

So take these tips into consideration the next time you have “nothing” to wear and put together an outfit that is completely fabulous and completely you.
