As quickly as it came, the end of spring break arrived. With another semester halfway completed, a week off seemed to be exactly what we needed. Whether students chose to spend their time relaxing in the sun, relaxing on the couch, partying on the beach or partying at a friend’s house, I’m sure we can all agree that we were not nearly ready to return to the excessive amount of work and frigid cold walks around campus.

As Monday morning came along, we were all faced with the reality that after having one week off, we had to prepare to spend five straight long weeks at school. For students that partied a bit too hard- this first week back was a recovery period. As we were all slammed with the overload of pictures in our feeds of people laying out on the beach with a drink in their hand and their friends surrounding them, we lived vicariously through those who posted them. We were filled with envy as we spent our time at home and made mental reminders that we would make it a point to spend spring break vacationing next year.

As many students partied on tropical islands during spring break, some decided to devote their week to feeling jealous and appreciating Netflix and high calorie snacks of any and every kind more than ever. For all of us- this first week back hit us like a ton of bricks. The transition is always a difficult one. What made it even harder was waking up to snow flurries on Monday morning. It was quite a reminder that we were back in New England.

Spring break was so sweet while it lasted. After being bombarded by the stress of midterms, we got to have a week off and devote our time to whatever we wanted to do. As the week came to a close, we arrived back to Sacred Heart as ready as we could be for classes to resume. Professors got right back into the swing of things and failed to take into account just how hard it is for us to adjust once again to early morning classes, cold weather, the missing presence of home-cooked meals, and getting back into school mode.

Spring break recovery served as a time to catch up on sleep, reflect on our vacations by scrolling through photos from the previous week, drink excessive amounts of coffee, and remind ourselves of the fact that we must get through the next couple of months until we are allowed to bask in the glory of break again- only this time, for even longer. Here’s to a quick spring break recovery- getting through this together, reminiscing on the good times, and looking forward to the ones that have yet to come.
