What organizations/clubs are you involved in on campus?

My freshman year I joined Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  In the past four years they have shown me tremendous support in so many ways, from becoming an initiated member freshman year to VPII New Member Educator this year. As VPII I have learned the meaning of loyalty, service, love, and above all, sisterhood. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I am also the President (and Founder) of the Education Club. It’s our second year on campus and we’re ready to take on another exciting year!

Give us an idea of what is currently on your plate this fall.

Lots! Aside from my classes, my calendar is packed with events until December (trying not to plan away my senior year!) Think Pink Week is always in October, which is a very fun time to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness & Education with my ZTA sisters. We love including our families and raising awareness, especially at the Pink Out Pioneer Football game! With the Education Club, this fall we will be mentoring high school students who wish to be teachers…just like us! I can’t wait to meet them and hopefully make some great connections as they enter college! We will also host a Book Drive around the holidays and plan an event at a local elementary school. Let another fun year begin!

What has been your most memorable/rewarding moment at SHU?

It’s really hard to decide but my most memorable experience has been Sorority Recruitment this past weekend with all of my sisters. It made me realize how content I am with who I’ve become in the past four years and the role my sisters played in that. My most rewarding moment of college is when I won Club President of the Year at the Campus Life Leadership Awards last spring. After starting the club last year, I felt like all of my efforts were worth it.

How do you manage your time so well being a part of so many activities along with your social life and your course load?

It sounds ironic, but I manage my time by keeping busy! It forces me to get my school work done during certain time slots and keeps my brain constantly working (a little too much!) I really don’t like feeling bored so I always find something to do!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time (the very little that I have) I like to relax. Ideally, I like to relax by reading a book or painting, which usually only happens in the summer.  However, my spare time at school usually turns into taking a nap, exercising, hanging out with my friends or spending time with my boyfriend!

What are your plans after graduation this spring?

After graduation (yikes!) I will have about two weeks of summer vacation before I start my 5th year graduate program at Sacred Heart to get my Master’s in Elementary Education. Though I’m super excited to start the program, I am definitely not in any rush this year. I’m really looking to enjoy every minute of my time and do what makes me happy.

Where do you hope to be career wise five years from now?

In five years I see myself having a full time job as an Elementary Teacher. Where, you ask? Good question. I’m typically a “planner” but this is one aspect of my life that I don’t have a plan for yet and right now, that is fine with me!

Do you have any tips for those who are trying to reach their goals by getting involved and keeping up with their studies here at SHU?

I live by the saying “hard work pays off.” In the past four years I have learned so much about myself by taking on new challenges and accepting leadership positions in ZTA and the Education Club. If you work hard and have the proper support, anything is possible. Do what interests you, try new things, and find what makes you happy. In the end, it’s all worth it.
