With the winter holidays approaching, now is a great time to get caught up on our personal to-do lists school might have left us with no time for. If you’re like me, winter break is spent reading books and watching the shows I have been meaning to watch all semester. It’s also a great time to listen to some podcasts and learn something new. Don’t worry – it doesn’t have to be work! I love to put a podcast on in the background if I’m cooking, wrapping presents, relaxing, or anything else during this winter season. Here are a few of my favourite podcasts right now, maybe you’ll like them too.

Still Buffering

Still Buffering is a podcast where real-life sisters Sydnee McElroy, Teylor Smirl, and Rileigh Smirl discuss topics that affect teenagers today and in generations before them. Questions you have had your whole life and answers to questions you didn’t know you needed. One of my favourite episodes is one that features Hank Green, YouTuber and author of An Absolutely Remarkable Thing. If you’re a fan of Hank Green you would probably like:

Dear Hank and John

Dear Hank and John is a podcast of brothers John and Hank Green, who co-run the popular YouTube channels vlogbrothers and Crash Course. They both have written books, such as John’s The Fault In Our Stars and Hank’s new release mentioned above. The witty banter and interesting questions they answer are always informative and entertaining. As you can imagine by the title, listeners email in their questions and ask for advice on both ridiculously funny and sometimes difficult situations to receive great advice. Plus, weekly updates on AFC Wimbledon and Mars.

TED Talks Daily

One way I like to feel productive while doing something I like is watching TED Talks. A lot of people love them for their informative, entertaining, and inspiring content. Ted Talks Daily puts the newest Ted Talks into an audio format so you can listen to them through your headphones while taking a walk in the snow, commuting, cleaning the house, or lounging around (it’s winter break, people)!

Harry Potter and the Sacred Text

This last one is for Harry Potter fans! Winter is the most beautiful season at Hogwarts, and it’s time for an annual movie marathon. Harry Potter and the Sacred Text is a fantastic podcast that analyzes Potter books and has meaningful conversations about the life lessons within them. This podcast turns one of your favourite stories into a great way to apply new lessons into your life and have a newfound appreciation for it. Everything your English class is missing, folks!

Hopefully, you’ll find these podcasts as entertaining and informative as I have, and you’ve found a new way to spend that precious time off school.
