Campus Celebrity: Twoey Gray

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Toronto MU chapter.

Name: Twoey Gray

Program: Politics and Government, theoretically graduating 2018 but I’m taking lighter course loads.

Favourite poem you’ve ever performed or written: I’m working on a poem called “The Rambler’s Prayer” right now, which tries to encapsulate the feeling of the last two minutes of a church service where the sense of community and hope is really flowin’. I don’t often talk about my own spirituality in my poetry so it’s a new experience for me to be exploring it so publicly.

Favourite thing to do in Toronto: I’m all about rooftopping right now! Urban explorers, hit me up.

Do you ever get nervous before performing?: I don’t feel nervous unless I’m underprepared. Having my  team supporting me in the audience makes performing really laid back. I can be in front of a crowd of hundreds and feel like I’m just spitting in a friend’s basement.

Biggest guilty pleasure: No guilt in pleasure!

Do you keep up with the Kardashians?: I heard someone call Kim a feminist icon. Probably one of the whitest sentences i’ve ever heard (disclaimer: I’m white too). I’m not about Kim’s politics but I respect that she took the traumatizing experience of a leaked sex tape to build a business empire, even if i disagree with empire. Love kanye’s music but he keeps letting me down (frown emoticon).

Last movie you cried at: Honestly couldn’t tell you! Last YouTube video i cried at was Jasmine Mans’ “Birmingham”. https://youtu.be/vmZ-Aw96_0g

If we looked in your fridge, what would we find?: My mom makes this fantastic lavender lemonade, all from scratch. She has connections at a lavender farm. You can taste the summer in it.

Do you have any performances coming up?: Always performances! I’ll be in the Word on the Street Festival at the Harbourfront Festival this Sunday. The performances i’m most excited about in october are the YOU(TH) VOTE! show on October 16 and my home slam, BAM! also in October.

Ryerson gal. Loving the city, missing my dog and probably listening to an audiobook
