So you would think that out of all the campuses at Rutgers New Brunswick, Douglass would be the least creepy because it’s so romantic!

WRONG.

The entire place is filled with odd stories, making it the perfect place to visit for chills.

1. Lady in the Lake

Mabel Smith Douglass. Known for creating the New Jersey College for Women, later renamed Douglass College after her. What is not as well known is her death.

Mabel Smith Douglass had retired and was at her lake house relaxing. One day, she went out to the lake to row alone. Her boat was found capsized, but her body nowhere in sight.

Thirty years later, some scuba divers found her remarkably preserved remains at the bottom of the lake. There was a rope around her neck, tied to an anchor. When the divers brought her body to the surface, she disintegrated. Legend says her ghost still haunts the area.

A harmless house where faculty have their offices… in the daytime. At night, rumors of creepy noises and strange happenings come true. There is a reason why they close at night and no one lingers around.

It’s so cute and has that romantic myth about staying forever with your significant other. But have you ever wondered what is in the pond? Why is it so murky? What has been in it? Rumor has it that the corpse of a whale was put in the pond, to preserve as it was studied for scientific purposes.

4. Jameson

In the basement, there is a hidden, drained pool. The pool was once a functioning place for residents to enjoy until one day, a girl mysteriously drowned one night. Those who have made it down to the basement say that there’s still one locker for her, and that her ghost still lingers.
