Ugly Christmas Sweaters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

‘Tis the season to buy an ugly Christmas sweater! Nothing says festive quite like a thick knit top adorned with tinsel, pom poms, and gaudy decals. The more the merrier! First made popular in the 1980s, holiday sweaters have especially become popular once again over the last couple of years. Numerous retailers pop them out and we can’t seem to get our hands off of them. It’s a bit of a mystery as to why they are so trendy each December, but it is safe to say that it’s hilarious to see everyone proudly strut in what were formerly declared as gag gifts and grandpa sweaters. They’ve become so popular that people throw ugly Christmas sweater themed parties. Hosts may offer a prize to the guest wearing the ugliest sweater! Because they are in such high demand, it may seem challenging to find your perfectly hideous holiday sweater, but don’t fear – you’re covered!

Check out http://www.ultimateuglychristmas.com/ for an array of ugly sweaters. On the site, you can choose from digital sweaters that feature an animated crackling fireplace, snow globe, or a caroling kitten (step aside Miley!) They even play music from your smartphone for an extra creepy factor.

Aside from searching online, the best places to look for ugly Christmas sweaters are in stores. If you’re hitting up the mall, search in Macy’s and Urban Outfitters. Check out a Goodwill store or your local thrift shop for a tacky sweater. This year, Target has an awesome selection of ugly sweaters available in-store and online like the one below available here.

If you’re bold, consider making your own sweater for this holiday season. You’ll be guaranteed a unique design and since there isn’t a rhyme or reason to these sweaters, there’s no way you can mess it up (doing so may even lead to a better result!) Now that you know where they can be found, the only thing left to do is hunt for the ugliest sweater out there!
