How’s College? Do you have a boyfriend? How are the boys? OMG do you have a valentine? Do you have a date to the party?

I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with being asked if I have a guy in my life or not. I am done with people assuming I can’t be happy unless I have guy in my life. I hate the stigma that if a girl doesn’t have a boyfriend then she is incapable of being happy and enjoying life. I know so many girls in my life that have been affected by being asked if they have a guy in their life or not; and every time they answer no, their self esteem takes another hit to the ground. I have had enough of seeing girls so upset because they feel like they aren’t good enough or that they aren’t worthy enough because they don’t have a boy.

I want girls to have so much self-confidence and be bursting with self-love. It is so important to me that girls learn to be their own cheerleaders and can make themselves happy. I think that in today’s world, girls need to understand that they do not need a boy to feel loved or to be happy. I want all girls to see that they can find happiness in places all around them. They need to take a look at their family, friends, their passions, or even hobbies. Love is all around girls in places that do not come from a significant other.

In addition to self-love I want girls to have confidence. Yes having self-confidence is something that does not happen overnight, but that does not mean that it is impossible to feel confident. I feel that wearing makeup, your favorite outfit, or doing your hair can make your confidence level rise; and these are not superficial things to impress other people but rather yourself. Dress for yourself and no one else! Go to the gym with friends, go for a walk, do a facemask, take selfies! Do anything big or small to make you feel confident.

The most important thing to remember while doings these things is to do them for yourself and absolutely no one else. Trust me, it is not worth changing yourself to be confident and happy — just be you and happiness with naturally come your way.

Hello! I am a freshman at Rowan University studying Elementary Ed and English. I hope you enjoy my writing!
I am a Writing Arts major at Rowan University. Poetry is my best friend. One day, I hope to be a successful writer for a popular magazine in NYC. My dream is to travel to Paris, London, and Rome to explore and write about my experiences there.
