Online Shopping Subscriptions- Worth It or A Scam?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rollins chapter.

Nowadays, it can seem easier and faster to stock up on cute outfits online and worry about choosing what you like when your clothes arrive. The internet is so crowded with advertisements for all kinds of impossibly cheap online shopping options- here’s your guide to knowing which ones are worth it, and which ones could be a scam.

Fabletics-

Fabletics capitalizes on its “2 for $24” legging deal, which, if you’re like me, is pretty hard to resist. The styles and ideal fit promoted on Instagram, Facebook, and T.V. make it difficult not to find yourself clicking on the link “just to see if it could be true.” That being said, Fabletics offers a disappointing revelation at the end of their styling quiz (one that asks for your birthday, email, and zip code, BTW). The 2 for $24 legging deal is only valid for VIP members, a tactic used to draw you into the site and encourage you to buy more workout gear than you ever thought you would when you clicked on that Instagram Ad. The overall consensus? Better priced leggings can be found at Marshalls, and there’s no guarantee on quality since you’re putting all your trust in the sick, adventurous workout pics they include on their site.

Shoe Dazzle-

Similarly to Fabletics, the mostly 75% off pumps and sneakers displayed on the Shoe Dazzle homepage are not promised to everyone- a VIP membership is required here, too, and trust us- it’s going to cost you more than a couple pairs of new heels (and THEN some) at Famous Footwear will. When it comes to taming your online shopping temptations and being smart about your budget, think about what products you need the most. Is a subscription to an athletics or shoes-only company worth it for you and what you like to wear?

Stitch Fix-

Stitch Fix is an online styling company that surveys and matches you with someone to pick out all your outfits- sounds intense, I know. The good part is, a subscription to Stitch Fix is only $20 per month (not including items you decide to keep and pay for.) Essentially, Stitch Fix allows you to pick and choose which items from their kit you want to mail back for free, and which ones you want to pay to keep. If you’re more dedicated to quality or hate deciding what looks good on you in stores, the personal shopping experience provided by Stitch Fix might be a smart option for you- the best part is, you’re in control of how much you spend.

Honey-

If your online shopping addiction is a cross-company deal and you find yourself scrolling through dreamy, overpriced items on multiple websites, install Honey for your computer. This free app automatically adds a Honey icon in the corner of every store you checkout at online and pulls every possible coupon code for the site you’re on. It’s more and more difficult nowadays to find in-store coupons at all, let alone ones that actually save you money rather than trap you into spending more. With Honey, you can save hundreds of dollars altogether, for no original cost at all.

In a world where everything from toilet paper to drones are becoming more accessible online, us college girls have to stay on the lookout for the best deals that will give us the most bang for our buck.
