I’m always looking for book recommendations, and BookTok is full of them (some better than others). Here are some of my favorites from the past few months:

Normal People by Sally Rooney

I read this book in two days and my Goodreads review was simply “wowowowowowowowowow.”  I was initially scared of Rooney’s lack of quotation marks, but I got over it pretty quickly. This is probably the saddest book I’ve ever read and Rooney’s words evoke such strong emotions (yes, I cried).

If you love the book, I’d suggest the Hulu adaption by the same name, starring Daisy Edgar Jones as Marianne and Paul Mescal (Phoebe Bridgers’ boyfriend<3) as Connell.

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover may just be the queen of BookTok. You will see her name on just about every video under the hashtag on Tiktok. This was the first book of Hoover’s that I’ve read as this isn’t my usual genre, and at times it made me really angry, to the point where I had to close the book for a bit, but it was a really good read.

Hoover just recently announced its upcoming prequel, It Starts With Us, which will be released in October 2022, so get reading!

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

This was a quick read, and I read it cover to cover within a two hour flight. At some points, it almost felt like a self-help book (in the best way possible) with lines like “You don’t have to understand life. You just have to live it.” We see main character Nora test out her different dream lives and find that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. The sci-fi aspect of this story did not at all subtract from the deep message Haig sends to his readers.

Samantha Cavallo is in her third year as a writer for Her Campus. She enjoys writing about anything and everything, though her pieces often focus on celebrities and pop culture or mental health and wellbeing. Sam is currently a junior at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology, and she is from Langhorne, Pennsylvania. After earning her Bachelor's degree, she plans to pursue a PhD in School Psychology. Beyond Her Campus, she is involved in many organizations on campus that focus on supporting the campus community, such as the Wellness Ambassadors, where she works in Health Promotions to promote the Nine Dimensions of Wellness, and the Student Support Foundation, operating the campus food pantry and providing emergency grants to students, faculty, and staff in need. In her free time, Sam enjoys reading, going to Barre class, finding new things to do in and around the Orlando area, especially if there is rumored to be good food, and Facetiming her dog Dexter. She is a major fan of both Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers (she even got it tattooed to prove it) and loves going to concerts, and of course dressing up for them.
