Reflecting on my time in college, it’s easy to identify all sorts of little experiences I never took advantage of. While four years may seem like a small eternity as a freshman, in reality, the time passes more quickly than you are able to fully grasp when in the midst of it all. In the spirit of making the most of my remaining months at Rice, I’ve decided to compile a senior year bucket list. Because though I don’t buy into the whole “college is the best four years of your life” adage, I do believe in making your college experience the best it possibly can be.

Things to accomplish/experience before May:

  1. Eat copious amounts of fried food at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.
  2. Drink with grad students at Valhalla.
  3. Go ice-skating at the Galleria.
  4. Attend the Houston Ballet.
  5. Make my way through the Midtown bar scene.
  6. Cheer on the Astros.
  7. Post a photo with the downtown Houston Is Inspired mural.
  8. Check out The Lights Fest.
  9. Take the time to actually appreciate James Turrell’s “Twilight Epiphany” Skyspace.
  10. And, perhaps most importantly – force myself to pull an all-nighter before Beer Bike.

Here’s hoping I procrastinate less on this list than I have on my school work…

Ellie is a Political Science and Policy Studies double major at Rice University, with a minor in Politics, Law and Social Thought. She spent the spring of 2017 studying/interning in London, and hopes to return to England for grad school. Academically, Ellie's passion lies in evaluating policies that further the causes of gender equality, LGBT rights, and access to satisfactory healthcare, specifically as it pertains to women's health and mental health. She also loves feminist memoirs, eighteenth-century history, old bookstores, and new places. She's continuously inspired by the many strong females in her life, and is an unequivocal proponent of women supporting women.
