My most recent Netflix binge has been Wynonna Earp. I just finished the first half of season 4, which are the most newly released episodes, and oh boy do I need more people to watch this show.

The premise of the show is similar to Supernatural, but with more old west vibes, more badass women, and much less queerbaiting.

The queer aspect is the reason I started watching the show in the first place. My Instagram explore page had a lot of posts about a lesbian couple in some show called Wynonna Earp, and I, always desperate for what little representation I can get, decided to give the show a chance.

Many TV shows and movies miss the mark with queer representation. It’s nearly impossible to find queer characters that aren’t battling with their sexuality or living in the 19th century. Wynonna Earp normalizes the realities of being a gay person in modern times. The focus is less on their sexuality and more so on the characters as people. The topic of their sexuality is not shied away from, yet they are more than the token gay character. It is so rare to see queer people represented in such a genuine light, yet Wynonna Earp does it so naturally.

Let’s just say I came for the representation and stayed for how ridiculous (in the best way) this show is. Demons, witches, and a curse are only the start of the problems that the Earps have to face, and each episode gets crazier and crazier. The plot gets so outlandish that it’s occasionally funny, but the quality of the show never lacks.

Wynonna Earp is full of incredible action scenes, lovable characters, and a sexy gentleman gunslinger. There is extreme lore in the show that gets crazier and crazier with each episode. It’s action-packed, genuine, hilarious, and worth watching.

If you want to watch Wynonna Earp (please please please), the first 3 seasons are available on Netflix, and the first half of season 4 is available on syfy.com. The second half of season 4 is expected to air next year.
