Tips for Staying Safe on Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

Spring break is the one time of year when college students flock to different cities and beaches around the world to have a great time and relax. One of the greatest things about being away for spring break is not having to worry about classes, tests, or work for a whole week!

While you’re packing and getting your itinerary together, there are also some safety tips to consider before leaving for your trip.

  1. Buddy system. Everyone hears this rule all the time, but it can seriously help keep you safe! Staying with someone, whether its one person or a large group of friends, is a definite way to make sure nothing bad happens. The buddy system works both ways, so make sure you’re looking out for your friends, too!
  2. Contact information. Make sure you tell everyone you are with where you are going at all times. It would also be a good idea to leave your flight information, hotel details, and phone numbers of your friends with your parents.
  3. Don’t leave the resort. If you’re traveling outside of the country, you should stay on the resort at all times. Most of the time, it is not a good idea to be roaming around a foreign country, especially at night. A lot of these vacation areas are located in dangerous areas, so it would be smart to remain on the resort.
  4. Don’t put your drink down. You never know what people are capable of! If you put your drink down, it is safer to just get a new one than to drink it and hope you’re not being drugged.
  5. Be aware. Make sure you’re not leaving your purse or any belongings lying around the beach. You shouldn’t trust strangers around your possessions. It would be smart to leave your expensive jewelry and designer bags at home!
  6. Have fun. As long as you follow these simple rules, you shouldn’t get yourself into too much trouble. Although you should be conscious of being responsible, you should also be having a great time. You’re only in college once, live it up!
