Most Quinnipiac students, even the freshmen who are not yet quite sure what to expect during their first year here, spent one night of the summer doing the same thing – online, buying tickets to Dayglow at the XL Center in Hartford. What exactly isDayglow? And how can us Bobcats be sure to have a great night on Friday, September ninth and tenth?!
Dayglow has toured around the country, and even somewhat internationally. It is a huge dance party – yes, bigger than Toads – but there’s a catch. While most of us are used to wearing body-hugging dresses and heels so high that we wonder how we don’t end up at the emergency room with a sprained ankle every Saturday, we can leave the make-up in our dorms and forget about doing our hair (I swear). Dayglow takes a typical club setting, but adds another element into it – paint! As us crazy QU students dance our…socks…off, there are continuous “paint blasts.” By the end of the night, all attending are covered in paint. So how can we make sure that this highly anticipated night goes off without a hitch? It’s pretty simple.
1. Wear white or neon. What fun will it be if those stalking your Dayglow pictures (put up the next morning, of course) can barely see the paint you were having the time of your life in all night? More importantly, neon paint is going to be flying at you from all angles, and there will be black lights there. Make sure you stand under them, but you’ll need to wear white. While the paint is supposedto wash out, I have heard stories of clothes still being a bit stained after a few washes. Buy cheap white Soffee shorts and a plain white tank, that way it won’t matter if some of that neon doesn’t quite come out.
2. Wear comfortable shoes. Since paint will be shooting across the XL Center, us Bobcats can assume that there will be paint on the floor. And wet paint is slippery. So those heels that you almost fall in every time you stand on the drink-splattered floors of any club in New Haven are not the best idea. Instead, wear an old pair of sneakers that you don’t mind getting full of paint – you’ll be a lot more comfortable and safe.
3. Get close to the stage! After reading internet articles on this paint party, I have learned that the only way you’ll get the most intense, paint-filled experience is to get up close to the stage. According to real-life accounts of Dayglow, getting there late is a bad idea. If you can’t walk through the crowd to the stage, chances are you will leave with pristine, still-white clothes.
4. Don’t bring a real bag. No girl wants to get their Coach wristlet stained with a neon orange paint splatter. Unless you can find a cheap cross-body bag, put your stuff in a plastic bag, because it will most likely get ruined. If you do find that cross-body bag: a. Let me know where you got it because I’ve been looking, and b. Put your stuff in a plastic bag before putting it in the real bag, just to be safe.
5. Don’t lose your friends. Since your stuff shouldbe in a plastic bag, people won’t be able to check their phones as easily or frequently. If you lose your friends, you might not be able to find them for the rest of the night. For that reason, make sure you come in together, stay together, and leave together. It’s a scary paint jungle in there!
6. Shower as soon as you get home. Not only would it be bad to wake up to paint-stained sheets in the morning, it’s a good idea to get that paint out of your hair before it dries.
7. Bring a disposable camera. Don’t bring your brand new digital camera because it could get ruined. Go old school and develop your pictures the next day, then scan them. You can put them on your wall after!
8. Party hard.
