Travelling: An Experience of a Lifetime

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Travelling is one of the most rewarding experiences. Entering a new country, trying new foods and experiencing a new culture is exactly what young adults need. Here are three reasons why traveling will help you grow as an individual.

Each time you travel, you gain more of a global perspective

The insights you gain when you travel to a new country broadens your perspective allowing you to put yourself in the shoes of an individual that you might perceive has no similarities to you. However, you can grow to understand unexpected differences and similarities that might change your opinion on global issues.

Better understand who you want to be as a person

When traveling you can run into many different problems and all the interactions you have with different people can shape you into the person you want to be. Having a poor interaction with a stranger you meet along the way might show you what characteristics you don’t want to exude. Then again, if someone does a random act of kindness, this also may change the way you choose to behave.

No matter where you go when traveling, you will always gain some tolerance. Things will never go the way you expect so having patience is crucial for a good experience.

The friends you make along the way

The most rewarding experiences when traveling are the ones that get you outside of your comfort zone. Keeping safety in mind, sometimes the best experiences are the ones when you are traveling alone. The trips expose you to new cultures and as long as you keep an open mind, you can meet cool friends along the way from all over the world.

At the end of the day, try to travel as much as you can because each trip you can learn something new. Also, don’t stress about where you go but, focus on making the most out of the experience.
