The 5 Most Important Spring 2019 Fashion Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Queen's U chapter.

Let’s talk about fashion. The clothes that we put on our backs, the shoes that we slip on before leaving the house, the accessories that we label “necessities” in order to justify their price tags – they’re all products of the fashion industry.

Like many things in life, fashion trends tend to repeat themselves. Items and styles go from being at the centre of attention to becoming completely obsolete. Then, a few years down the road, they come back under the spotlight. Here are some recent fashion trends that you should keep an eye out for.

1. Biker Shorts

After being one of the hottest items in the ’90s, the cycling shorts craze is back. I personally still don’t know how I feel about them. Needless to say, these shorts have won over the hearts of many celebrities, including Kim Kardashian and Karl Lagerfeld.

2. Denim Jumpers

These adorable pieces first emerged during the ’90s for girls and women alike, and they made a strong comeback last year. This trend is here to stay.

3. Scrunchies

Popular in the ’80s and ’90s, scrunchies are back! I was totally against these obnoxious hair accessories at first, thinking they were bulky, inconvenient, and just distasteful in general – but after trying them out, I’ve converted. They add a nice pop of colour and personality to an outfit, plus they are super easy on the hair.

4. Puffer Coats

Even though I do not own one myself, I greatly appreciate these warm and light coats that make everyone look like the Michelin Man.

5. Boots, boots, boots

Whether it be chic black leather ankle boots, your everyday brown Blundstone boots, or bold and edgy combat boots, I love them all.
