Start Planning Your (Fake) Wedding

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Last weekend, I had the honor of watching two of my best friends get married… kind of. No, they did not do any paperwork, nor have they ever actually dated. They’re just friends, but we had a wedding anyway. Because, why not?

The lovely venue was the groom’s apartment, under the glow of his giant Taco Bell sign. Neighbors, friends, and roommates filled in all the necessary roles for the ceremony. The ring bearer and flower girl were played by yours truly. We had the bouquets, the rings, the vows, a minister (thank you, www.themonastery.org), a photographer, and, of course, (non-alcoholic) champagne. But most importantly, we had all the joy of a real wedding.

Even though it wasn’t a “real” wedding, it was still one of the best nights of our lives… or at least this semester. We all came together to make it an incredibly special and memorable night for the happy couple. It’s not very often that we get to put on our formal attire, so it was nice having something to dress up in heels for. It’s also a great opportunity for a photoshoot and conversation starter with friends you haven’t seen a while.

Despite the low budget and extremely rushed planning, it genuinely was one of the greatest things we have done together. I whole-heartedly recommend everyone do this with their friend group at least once. I know it sounds stupid, but it really was so much better than I ever expected.
