How to Make Friendsgiving Unforgettable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.
Pick the perfect setting

Setting can make or break the occasion. The idea is to make the setting a cozy environment, so it is best not to be crammed. The person that hosts should have the largest space, that way there is more room to cook, serve and enjoy the meal!

Invitations

A Friendsgiving is held for those special people or your chosen family. You’ll want to make sure to invite friends that are near and dear to your heart. Depending on the space you’re working with find out how many people can come and then send out the invites. A group chat can work really well to get the message out. In the invitation make sure to include the time, date, and location. Then you’ll have a head count for the people that can come and now you can figure out who brings what.

Dishing out the dishes

This is the most crucial step for having a fantastic Friendsgiving, so ask your friends what they can bring to the dinner. Typically, you’ll want to have each person bringing something different. Make sure you have your main bases covered: appetizers, side dishes, main dish, drinks, desserts, and any plates/utensils/napkins you may need.

Decorating and personal touches

A few years ago, my friends and I made personal place settings with each guest’s name on a card where they would be sitting. It was really cute and made this occasion feel a little more special. We also had a few colored balloons in fall colors like orange, brown, white, yellow, and red to decorate. A few streamers and a thanksgiving banner add some sweet touches. Make sure to add a table cloth and it doesn’t have to be fancy. Deep red colors make other colors like yellow, orange, and white pop. A nice centerpiece really ties everything together. Think small pumpkins, candle sticks, pine cones, fake leaves, etc.

Enjoy the presence of the people you’re thankful for

The whole point of a Friendsgiving is to celebrate the people that bring you joy outside of your family. This time of year, is stressful on a lot of students and around the holidays for some people that stress can turn into other negative emotions. What better way to relieve stress than to hang out with some friends, eat a good meal, and make bonds that will last for years?
