Fall Recipes You Should Try This Year Part 1: Fruit Desserts!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

For those of you that do not know, I am an avid cook and baker (check out @beccas_good_eats on Instagram). Fall is such a fun time of year because the kitchen finally stops getting so hot when you are cooking up a storm. Also, there are just so many fun warm recipes. Here are my top five fruit dessert picks! Stay tuned next week for non-fruit desserts.

First: Apple Pie

It is a must. If you do not bake an apple pie this fall, did you even know it was fall? No. Best thing is when you go pick some apples with friends (socially distanced and masked this year) and then come home and bake a nice hot apple pie. I enjoy mine with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream but to each there own. Here is an apple pie recipe that I am loving right now.

Note: Pecan and pumpkin are also really really great fall pies, but apple takes the cake in my opinion.

Second: Not to pick something apple again, but Apple Fritters

As someone who just bought an air-fryer, come on, were you expecting anything less? I love the crisp well done outside of these while still having the fruity moist inside, truly an art. This is another fall baking must. Plus, I know you picked way too many apples while you were picking them to make just an apple pie, so I think a second apple recipe is completely appropriate.

Third: Chocolate Cake in a Pumpkin

I know I said fruit desserts and if you know me you know I don’t even like chocolate, but I saw this recipe in my Food Network magazine and decided I had to try it and you do to. I mean how impressed are your fall guests or Instagram followers going to be with this cake INSIDE a pumpkin… ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Plus, you make it with a butterscotch sauce which gives me cozy fall vibes.

Fourth: Pear Crisp

This screams fall. The cinnamon. The pear. I cannot. You need to make a pear crisp. This is way less basic than your usual pumpkin and apple recipes. It is different. It is better. Try it because I know you are going to love it and wonder why it took you think long to bake a fall dessert with pears.

Five: Cranberry Pumpkin Bars

Combining two amazing fall flavors into one. The pumpkin and cranberry complement each other beautifully in this fun fall dessert. In my house, these bars are used for snacking and hardly last more than a few days.

So, picking just five recipes was hard. There are so many amazing fall recipes out there. Enjoy the season and the flavors.
