Alyssa Brown ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

Name: Alyssa Brown
Year: Sophomore
Major: Fashion Merchandising
Hometown: Syracuse, IN
Activities: Professional Development Council, working out, shopping of course, and…sleeping? Does that count?
Relationship Status: Single lady!

Her Campus: Tell us about next year! We understand you’ll be in NYC?!
Alyssa Brown: Well, fashion merchandising majors are given the opportunity to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City for their junior year. We are set up with classes and an internship solely focused on learning about the fashion industry. I’m kind of a homebody, but how could I turn down NYC?

HC: That sounds amazing! What kind of fashion inspires you?
AB: Right now I’m obsessed with thrift stores. I can always find unique stuff for way cheap!

HC: Any favorite trends this fall?
AB: Hidden wedge ankle boots and fur collared pea coats—I recently found one for $4 at Salvation Army that was real fur and leather!

HC: What three things would you take with you on a deserted island?
AB: Mashed potatoes, McDonald’s cheeseburgers, and an iPod full of Taylor Swift.

HC: One word your friends would use to describe you.
AB: Goofy!

HC: What do you look for in a guy?
AB: Smart, outgoing (can carry on a conversation), funny, athletic, stylish (in a manly way), and avoids using “:p” and “LOL” in texts.

HC: Any closing words of wisdom?
AB: Don’t sweat the petty things, and don’t pet the sweaty things.

Amanda Norell is a junior at Purdue University where she is working toward a communication degree, supplemented by an art and design minor. A true Midwesterner, Amanda was born in Chicago and raised in northern Indiana, just minutes from the Michigan border. In addition to being Purdue's Campus Correspondent, Amanda is also a junior board member on Liberal Arts Student Council, a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, and has both edited and written for The Exponent, Purdue's independent daily student newspaper.  She has held internships in both event planning and career development, and has her sights set on becoming an event and wedding planner after graduation. She cannot get enough of campus in the fall, crepes from Greyhouse, Urban Outfitters, and simply lovin' life.
