What To Wear: The NYC St. Patty’s Day Parade

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purchase chapter.

With just a few days before one of my personal favorite “holidays”, it’s almost time to rummage through our closet for that perfect pair of shoes, a top in a beautiful shade of green, and if you’re lucky, end up with an outfit worthy of a pot of gold.

But where to start? It’s one thing to support the popular and century old Irish tradition of draping yourself in green, but it’s something else entirely to drown in it. So why not start with a scarf, such as American Apparel’s, Grommet Scarf in Military Fatigue. It serves the purpose of keeping your neck cozy, and can be worn as a statement piece without over-doing the green theme.

If you’re not into scarves and want to show your Irish pride and legs, try these pair of slim fitting high-waist pants from Chictopia.com. They create a visual lengthening of your legs, all the while creating an hour glass shape that will stop even the drunkest of those in the midst of celebrating mid sip. Maybe you’re looking for something short and sweet? Check out H&M’s green tulip-ended skirt and pair with a long blazer with three-quarter length sleeves.

Want something to keep your head protected from unexpected rain? Look out for H&M’s knit cap in emerald green. Both the shape and style of this hat brings out a burst of personality, and shows just how much you love your traditional St. Patrick’s Day colors. Add even more green festivity to your look with a comfy crop top like DIY’s Forest Green cut-out crop top.

If your feeling really into the sprit, you can make all green with envy with a pair of Alexander McQueens’ canvas Fold-over boots. Originally priced at $1,085 and now $759.50, they’re not exactly “a steal” but definitely a must-have in my closet. Or if you’re like me, (a starving college student with a desire for great shoes) you can settle for a cheaper, duplicate pair of McQueens shoes from DSW. Trust me, if you won’t tell, I won’t.

So that’s all for now ladies, remember the key is to hint at the colors, not become the human version of Gumby; because even if you won’t remember much of St. Patrick’s day, there is still Facebook, and a slew of “tagged” photos that will definitely jog your memory.

Christie is a sophomore journalism major at Purchase College in NY, but she’s a Jersey Girl at heart. When she isn’t studying (or being sarcastic), she spends her summers selling crafty jewelry on Long Beach Island and making coffee for her superiors at Parker and Partner’s Marketing Resources. She’s a sucker for debates, sushi, and a really good book. Her dream job (this week) would be at the Village Voice, but she’d be happy with a byline and paycheck. She hopes to make HerCampus bigger and better than ever at Purchase and is excited for the chance to work with these lovely HC ladies.
