My Top Three Picks (and skips) from Sol De Janeiro

Sol De Janeiro, a popular body care brand that captures Brazilian-inspired, beach-babe beauty in a bottle, has continued to take the internet by storm since its launch in 2015. When was the last time you opened TikTok or Instagram and DIDN’T see a rave review of their Brazilian Bum Bum Cream?

The brand has amassed an ever-growing popularity among women of all ages, and much of this popularity can be credited to their social media presence and fiercely loyal customer-base. Every product they launch seems to be sold out before it even hits the shelves.

However, like many viral products, the volume of reviews surrounding them can leave shoppers wondering what’s ACTUALLY worth the money versus what’s just overhyped. As someone who owns almost everything from Sol De Janeiro, here’s what lives up to the steep Sephora price tag, and what I think you could skip out on.

First, the list of products that get my stamp of approval…

Body Creams

I’m sure you’ve heard this millions of times, but yes, the body creams. I have three out of the four body creams currently available from the brand’s permanent collection, and I’m obsessed with them all. My all-time favorite is the Bom Dia Bright Body Cream, which can be found in the vibrant pink bottle. Every time I lather myself in this, I feel like an actual sugar plum fairy thanks to the divine vanilla woods scent.

Of course, I can’t complete the list without paying respects to the original Brazilian Bum Bum cream, whose dollops of irresistible pistachio-caramel scent tighten and firm the skin thanks to the all-powerful guarana extract. I also love the Beija Flor Elasti-Cream, which is an absolute fruity-floral heaven in a perfectly aesthetic baby pink bottle.

You can’t go wrong with any of these – the scents are divine, they last on the skin, and they’re each packed with different skin-improving ingredients, all while providing hydration and glow.

Body Mists

I’m also an avid user of their hair and body mists, which have corresponding scents to their matching body creams, but are referred to with numbers instead. The brand has 5 scents available in their permanent collection, along with 4 exclusive mists out now.

Out of my collection of seven mists, my favorites pair beautifully with their body-cream counterparts I praised above – Cheirosa #40 matches the Bom Dia Bright cream, Cheirosa #62 matches the Bum Bum cream and Cheirosa #68 matches the Beija Flor Elasti-Cream. I’m obsessed with layering each product pair together to increase the longevity of the amazing scents.

Tip: I find them to last especially long when spritzed in my hair!

Bom Dia Bright Clarifying AHA BHA Body Wash

My last rave review is dedicated to the Bom Dia Bright Clarifying AHA BHA Body Wash. Not only is this wash perfectly compatible with its matching body cream and mist, but it’s also made a genuine difference in my skin. It’s a gentle clarifying wash that I find keeps any pestering body acne at bay, and leaves you feeling smooth, clean and beautifully scented after your shower.

Now let’s move on to the hard truths; though I love Sol De Janeiro, their products do cost a pretty penny, but not always for a worthy cause.

Brazilian Glossy Nourishing Anti-Frizz Hair Oil

It smells great, but that’s about it. It made my hair look greasy and weighed down, and did nothing for frizz. Especially considering the price tag, there are better hair oils on the market.

Rio Deo Aluminium-Free Deodorant

I appreciate that they wanted to give customers a deodorant that matches the brand’s existing scents, so users can maximize their scent cloud with identical smelling body cream, mist, wash and now deodorant.

However, it’s still… a natural deodorant. If aluminum-free formulas work for you, great; but sadly, most of us will be smelling like a sweaty mess instead of a Brazilian goddess after three hours of wear time.

Brazilian Kiss Lip Butter

Like all their products, it smells amazing – but the scent lasts a mere 30 seconds on the lips. Additionally, the formula is thin and doesn’t feel nourishing.

If you want to spend $18 to reapply your lip balm every 15 minutes, she’s your girl. I do appreciate the cute packaging though.

Overall, Sol De Janeiro is easily my favorite body care brand – my favorite products certainly outweigh the ones I’d skip out on. Happy shopping!
