Is “Outer Banks” Season 3 Worth the Watch?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

After quite a long wait, Netflix finally released season three of “Outer Banks” on Feb. 24. The new season is definitely a bit different than the previous two. If you aren’t sure whether or not you want to delve back into the land of pogues and kooks, I’m here to tell you if season three is worth the watch.

(Spoilers ahead).

Season three starts off with everyone’s favorite teenagers stranded on a deserted island. In the season two finale, the gang jumped off Ward Cameron’s boat and ended up floating ashore in the middle of the nowhere. Luckily, after a month, the group is saved by a seedy man and they are flown to Barbados, where the real trouble begins.

From that point on, the season is all gas, no brakes. There is not a moment in all 10 episodes that is not action packed.

So, if you’re looking for that chill beachy vibe from season one, you may not find it here. If you love a show that will entice you every second, you might love this season.

Season three’s new mystery is El Dorado, a lost city of gold. Of course, the pogues couldn’t resist yet another treasure hunt.

Due to this new hunt, the pogues are barely in the Outer Banks. They go from island to island and end up in South America for the big finale.

There’s also the whole situation with John B’s dad, Big John. While I did get teary-eyed at their reunion, I started to realize that Big John is actually a terrible father, and I did not enjoy seeing this particular father-son relationship play out.

The other issue with this season is there was way too much going on at once, like way too much. There’s the search for El Dorado, John B finding his dad, multiple kidnappings, deaths and drama. If just one plot line was dropped, I think the season would have been better.

With all that being said though, I can’t help but love “Outer Banks.” I think everyone can agree that it’s not the most groundbreaking show of all time, but it sure is entertaining. I still found myself rooting for the pogues and gasping at the screen.

If you love a good action movie, this season is definitely for you. There’s tons of running, yelling and bullets flying everywhere.

The season finishes off with a bit of a cliffhanger and a new mystery for their next season, which has already been confirmed by Netflix. It seems the show is going to go down the pirate route, specifically Blackbeard and his treasure.

So, if you’re a ride or die “Outer Banks” fan, I’d bet you already watched the new season. If you aren’t sure about it though, I think it’s worth the watch. It definitely has flaws, but I was entertained enough to watch the whole thing in one day.

All 10 episodes are now streaming on Netflix, and if you’re craving a little bit of summer fun, I’d suggest hitting play.
