This past week was an absolute win for the diehard fans of popular beauty brand Glossier’s staple product, their lip balm cleverly titled Balm Dotcom.

For a limited time only this holiday season, the brand announced they’d be releasing two fan-favorite lip balm flavors from past years: Cookie Butter and Hot Cocoa (formerly known as Swiss Miss). Glossier posted the following teaser to Instagram on Oct. 24.

The post featured a carousel of winter themed delights, with a special emphasis on the return of both Cookie Butter and Hot Cocoa Balm Dotcom. The opening slide pictures a delicious cup of hot cocoa, while another shows off Christmas cookies in the shape of the brand’s signature “G” logo.

Famous for their unique flavors and adorable paint-tube inspired packaging, these lip balms were iconic. The beloved lip balm was reformulated and repackaged in late 2022, and the brand has since lost many of its loyal customers.

Members of popular subreddit r/glossier, a community dedicated to Glossier’s consumer base, were vocal about their disappointment in the brand after the announcement of the product’s reformulation last year.

One user posted saying, “Compared to the original, it’s a much thinner consistency. It feels runny or slippery when applied to the lips. It smells a little more artificial to me, and it doesn’t feel as moisturizing. I’m pretty bummed because I was so excited about the new applicator but I’m going to have to find a new holy grail lip balm.”

Glossier, however, is changing that this holiday season by providing original-formula-lovers another chance to stock up on their favorite balm.

Since Glossier regularly releases limited edition product sets, collections and products, fans did not expect the brand to revert to the original formulation of its bestselling product. After its costly transition from non-vegan to vegan friendly, the hard-launch came as a surprise.

Fans have expressed their gratitude for the re-launch, since it shows the company has been listening to the complaints of their customers. One Reddit user posted to the community saying, “IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! I missed out on Swiss Miss so I am SO PSYCHED!!!! This changes everything!”

Additionally, the two flavors were past holiday exclusives, which tend to sell out fast and never return. Beauty fanatics have been known to sell their Balm Dotcoms in these exclusive flavors on Depop, Instagram and Poshmark for egregious prices, such as a Depop seller charging $65 for a used balm.

The two lip balms will be re-released on Glossier’s website on Thursday, Oct. 26. They cost $14 for 0.5 oz of product. This holiday launch is the perfect opportunity to try the product’s original formulation, which is a holy grail lip balm among many beauty lovers.

Personally, I was rationing my Swiss Miss Balm Dotcom and never got to try Cookie Butter, as it sold out during its release in 2021. Get your hands on it soon, as it will likely sell out fast!
