Cure Your Mid-Semester Slump

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

November is officially upon us and by now that new semester glow is starting to fade away. Around this time it hits you – your life is routine. The places you go, the people you see, it all can seem pretty monotonous.

Happy Valley is full of hidden treasures and downtown gems just waiting to be discovered by the adventure-seeker in all of us. We here at Her Campus know how that mid-semester funk can feel and so we’ve gathered our top five hot spots:

1. Mount Nittany – Like my old friend Dr. Seuss says: “If you never did, you should.” Close and convenient, Mount Nittany provides anyone an amazing opportunity for some nature-filled fun. With its various trails you do not have to be a hiking master to enjoy this spot. And, once you gaze out over that first outlook you’ll remember just how fortunate you are to be a student at such a remarkable place.

2. Sunset Park – Located right next to the Paterno’s house, this quiet park complete with bike and walking trails is just right across the street from campus. This is a great spot for reflection and relaxation.

3. Indigo – Get underground and get your dancing shoes on! This club offers the hottest music and a bumping dance floor as well as great deals and performers. However please be advised, this is a 21 and older crowd!

4. Women’s volleyball game – Ranked number 3 in the nation, going to watch this team is a guaranteed good time. Gather up your friends and go root on one of Penn State’s most elite athletic teams.

5. Saint’s Café – After a long day of adventures there is nothing better than cooling down with a warm drink. Saint’s offers delicious coffee and makes for a quite, serene environment where you can kick back and finally remember that your life isn’t so boring after all.

Born and raised by two Nittany Lions, Rachel continued the tradition by attending Penn State University in the fall of 2009. Currently a senior journalism major, Rachel also spends her time minoring in both psychology and Spanish. During her sophomore year she wrote for the Greek newspaper at Penn State as a member of Alpha Xi Delta, followed by joining the Her Campus team as a writer and the Public Relations/Social Media Manager in the fall of her junior year. In search of mastering the Spanish language, Rachel indulged herself in the country of Spain for five months while she studied abroad in the city of Alicante during the spring of 2012. In order to keep her English up to par, Rachel blogged about her experiences for both her personal account and Her Campus at Penn State.
