10 Struggles of Having a Long-Distance Best Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

For those of you who have a long-distance best friend, you’ll understand these struggles well; and if you’re lucky enough to be at the same school as your best friend, may you never have to experience these struggles:

1. When something eventful happens to you but you have to wait for those three dots to pop up in your messages to get to talk about it.

Bonus points if there’s a time difference.

2. When you’re back to only having one closet of clothes to choose from.

What am I supposed to do now?

3. When you want to visit them over breaks but their school runs on a different schedule.

Guess I’ll just sit in your apartment all day and wait for you to come home from class.

4. When someone upsets them and you have to stop yourself from hopping on the next flight out.

“Just give me a few hours, I’ll be right there.”

5. When you have to watch your favorite shows and drink wine together over FaceTime instead of in-person.

That’s true friendship.

6. When you have trouble keeping up with who’s who in the stories they tell you about the people at their school.

“Are you talking about Alec or Kyle? Wait, neither? Who are we talking about right now then?”

7. When you have no one who’ll agree to order food with you at 2 a.m.

“I wish we went to the same school just so it was socially acceptable for me to order this extra large pizza right now.”

8. When you have to constantly text them updates about your day because they aren’t there to experience it in real time.

“The bus driver just yelled at me and I almost cried, where were you.”

9. When they don’t answer your texts or calls for a while so you start to worry.

You are stressing me out.

10. When you have to fit months of being apart into whatever short span of time you have when you finally get to see them.

You’ve got this.
