10 Activities to Enjoy this Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

Fall has just begun, so lets talk about all the fun activities to enjoy with family and friends this season!

Pumpkin Picking and Painting

This is something I always look forward to doing with my mom. We go to the farm dressed in cozy clothes, while some people are in hoodies and others in flannels. The air is starting to become sharp and cool as a warning of winter coming. We walk around the field to find the perfect pumpkin, but is there really such a thing? Then, we go home and paint the pumpkins however we want. I’ll admit, I’m not the best artist, but that doesn’t matter, it’s all about the memories. This is one of my favorite activities, so I recommend taking any opportunity you can to craft with some pumpkins.

Apple Picking

While you’re at the farm picking out a pumpkin, you might as well stay to pick some apples! Who wouldn’t like to go on a hayride out to an orchard to pick apples? Or even just walk to pick them, that works too. Either way, you can’t beat being able to grab a fresh apple from the tree and take a bite. McIntosh and Golden Delicious are my favorites, what are yours?

Look at the Foliage

Taking a look at the foliage in fall is a must. The trees are so beautiful as they change from green to yellow, orange, and red. This activity is so simple and free! You can walk around your neighborhood, go to a park, walk through a trail, or take a drive. Driving through the mountains in the fall is exceptionally beautiful and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Bake a Pie

It’s fall, how can you go through fall without baking a pie! I encourage you to bake a pumpkin pie, but I will be kind to the pumpkin haters for today. Personally, I believe pumpkin pie is superior to any other pie, but there are still plenty of other options to get in the fall spirit. It doesn’t matter what kind, but baking can be a great bonding experience for you and your family or friends.

Hayrides

I briefly mentioned that you could take a hayride while going apple picking, and I’m back to tell you that hayrides are an essential fall activity. Hayrides are so much fun, especially with family or friends. What’s not to enjoy?

Drink Some Apple Cider

Okay now seriously, you have to do this one. Apple cider is so sweet and delicious, I do not trust anyone who doesn’t like this.

Collect Leaves

Collecting a leaf in the fall is equivalent to picking a flower in the spring. They may not last long, but for a moment doing this can bring a smile to your face. Personally, I love picking the leaves that are very red, sometimes with small tints of yellow. They are so beautiful and I will obsessively stare at them until their time comes to an end.

Jump in a Pile of Leaves

Bring back your inner child and rake some leaves up in a pile and jump. It will never get old.

Go Get Some Pumpkin Ice Cream

Pumpkin ice cream is a treat that is only offered once a year, now is the time! While some folks are not pumpkin connoisseurs, it it always worth a try.

Cozy Up with a Book

This is the perfect activity for a rainy, fall day. You can curl up on the couch, or wherever you like to read, and listen to the rain while being engaged in a great book. Every once in a while, you can look outside and see how pretty the leaves are while it rains. Of course, reading isn’t reserved for rainy days. Enjoy a nice day outside in the crisp fall weather to soak up a great read.
