“Are you two dating?” This has to be one of the most frequently asked questions when two members of the opposite sex are seen alone together. Although it seems like such an innocent question, it gives off the feeling that being single is a bad thing. The truth is, it’s not bad at all!

During college, there is so much going on that it might even be hard to make time for your significant other. So instead of worrying about being alone, celebrate being yourself and having nothing holding you down. Still not convinced? Read on, hopefully your opinion will change!

1. Focus

College is fun, but you still need that extra time to focus and get your work done. (Might as well get the boring reason out of the way!)

Take it from the song “Oh No” by Marina and the Diamonds and focus on working your way toward a successful career: “Don’t do love…I’m only after success, don’t need a relationship.”

2. Girls Nights

It may seem overrated, but the idle Wednesday night will hit, and you’ll want nothing more than to go on a Chick-fil-A or do a mall run with your girls. Don’t be shy, it happens to all of us!

3. Independence

Being single gives you the opportunity to do whatever you please, whenever you please to do it. You don’t have to worry about someone trying to convince you to do something you don’t want to do. (Ex-boyfriend who loved going to see superhero movies, we’re talking about you.)

4. Money

Guys always complain about how expensive girlfriends are. What they fail to realize is that they can be equally expensive. Spend that money on something for yourself; you’ll be happy you did!

5. Admiration

It’s true. There are girls who date simply because they fear being alone. Some girls really look up to others who are fine on their own. It shows that you are the dominant in your own life.

6. Drama

No boyfriend? Guaranteed less drama!

Taylor is living a drama free life, too!

7. Self Development

Especially in college, it is important for you to focus on yourself and develop into who you want yourself to be instead of who someone else wants you to be.

8. Friends

Managing your time between friends and a significant other can be difficult, especially when one side tries to guilt you about it. It’s worse with older friends who have known you longer and know you better than your boyfriend or girlfriend. Being single gives you the opportunity to spend time with friends without feeling guilty.

9. Guilt Free Fun

By being single, you are free to go out with whomever you please and test the waters with what you would want in a legitimate relationship. You are not tied down and can date freely or not at all.

10. Self Enjoyment

If you can achieve happiness on your own, you can do anything. People have the misconception that being single is the worst and that is absolutely wrong. When you are perfectly happy being independent, there really isn’t anything you can’t do.
