Tips To Help Transition Your Outfit From Day To Night

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Behrend chapter.

Allow me to paint you a picture: It’s Monday; you’ve been busy all day, running up and down campus; maybe you’re thinking about getting some work done so you can enjoy your weekend…or maybe you enjoyed your weekend a little too much and now you have to get stuff done, and then you remember you have an event to attend tonight. Panic sets in. Do you have enough time to change? Do you just show up like this? What do you do!?

Well, worry not, Collegiettes, because we have your back. Here’s a quick guide on how to quickly change your outfit from day to night!

Let’s start from top to bottom: shoes! A quick way to dress up an outfit is to throw on some booties. They are more comfortable than heels and you can wear them all day without feeling like your feet are killing you! They can pass as more casual during the day and more dressed up at night.

Another safe choice is to always go for cute strappy sandals or platform sandals, something that you know you can wear all day and can carry you painlessly to night time. Pair them with a simple pair of black jeans, a staple piece that can go with anything at any time of the day. They will keep you comfortable during the day and still look chic during the night! Not to mention, they will match pretty much everything. It’s always a good idea to keep a few pairs in your closet and I know, as comfy as those leggings might be, I personally think jeans are a safer option. You never know where the night might take you!

Now, let’s move up. The best way to go from day to night with tops in a small amount of time is to wear a very basic but cute t-shirt. Try something with a high neckline or maybe a striped top. During the day you can wear it as is and once it gets dark outside just add a jacket. My personal go-to is a leather jacket! It makes it look like you tried and also adds that extra element to your look! And all you did was throw a jacket on ;)

This next advice is one of my favorites when I need to go from day to night: Accessorize! An accessory can really make your look and with the help of a statement piece (layered necklace, chunky rings or some big earrings) you can really transform your entire look! They can easily take your day outfit to another level and it takes barely take any time to throw one on. They really can make a huge difference!

Another accessory that can really make a look is a belt. It’s an accessory that can brighten and make a difference around your waist or hips. Even if you wear cute shoes and jewelry, try and add a belt. It might end up pulling the whole look together.

The last few tips I have to quickly transform an outfit are makeup and hair! Makeup is a simple thing to change. Just wear your everyday look and add a bold lip (Such as a plum or dark wine). Another simple makeup trip that can spice up your look is to add a pair of lashes! And always remember, the more dramatic the better!

Lastly, let’s talk about hair. Some people think that hair is a huge change that will take time, however, it can be super simple! Things like braids, ponytails and sea salt spray can really save your night! My personal favorite way to change up my hair is to use sea salt spray. It gives your hair a cool texture, killer beachy waves and it also gives your hair a full, finished look despite only taking a couple minutes!
