With the leaves finally falling around Providence, the time has come to bring sweaters and boots out of storage. While buying a whole new wardrobe for every season each year is not sustainable, a healthy refresh is perfectly acceptable. Ultimately, college students need cute options that also provide comfort and warmth when braving the first flurries of snow that have arrived. Instead of breaking the bank, check out these five comfortable fall trends.

  1. Faux Leather: With the rebellious leather aesthetic persisting from last year, one cannot go wrong with adding more faux leather pieces to their closets. The material provides warmth and an elevated look while being available in a wide range of comfortable styles. Aerie has both faux leather leggings and faux leather wide-leg pants in a range of colors perfect for any fall outfit.
  2. Oversized Sweaters: The fall season brings back memories of the All Too Well short film and binge-watching Gilmore Girls until the late hours of the night. An oversized sweater, paired with leggings and boots, is the perfect fall outfit for going to class and running errands. Taylor Nation even recently re-released the Red Taylor’s Version era argyle sweater and a Folklore patch sweater if you missed out on the Speak Now Taylor’s Version and the 1989 Taylor’s Version cardigans.
  3. Wide Leg Sweatpants: If joggers and leggings are getting boring after an entire week, opt for a pair of skater-leg sweatpants instead. Pair your cropped sweatshirts and tighter-fitting sweaters for a photo-worthy outfit that you can wear to your morning classes.
  4. Fleece Jackets: Rather than pairing your tank top with a zip-up hoodie, opt for a shacket made of a sweatshirt-style material, such as Aerie’s Lumberjane Shirts. The silhouette elevates your look without sacrificing any comfort.
  5. Mini Uggs: Fashion trends are truly cyclical, as the recent surge in popularity surrounding Ultra Mini Ugg boots has proven. This versatile piece can be paired with leggings, jeans, or sweatpants while providing warmth on chilly fall days. With multiple colors available, there is a pair that matches every aesthetic.

Even though the summer fashion season is over, there is plenty to be excited about as the final leaves fall here in Providence.
