Spring Break Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

I have some good news! There are only two small weeks left between you and the sweet embrace of Spring Break. Maybe you already have plans, but maybe you don’t. In that case, I’m here to help you out with some fun ways to spend your time this Spring Break, that also won’t break the bank.

1. Road Trip!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a serious case of cabin fever lately. It’s not too late to plan a trip with some friends, or by yourself to get out of here! Go visit some family, a different state, the beach, or another friend at a different college. Take a map, or don’t! The journey is more important than the destination!

2. Go To a Local Spring Fair or Festival

Look up in your local newspaper or online magazine about the city’s going-ons. I can guarantee that there will be a farmer’s market, spring fair, or even a free music festival for you to go to! Find some cool handmade stuff, some fresh produce, and get a yummy snack.

3. De-Stress

Take some time for yourself this spring break. Drink some tea, take a nice bubble bath, read a book, take a yoga class, or find your new favorite band. Make sure you pamper yourself and take some time to relax. Whether you need some good, old, “me time” or time with some friends, do what it takes to make you happy.

4. Finish a Goal

Maybe there’s a book you started over Christmas Break that you just haven’t found time to pick up again. Or perhaps a DIY project that you started a while back but didn’t finish. Get your personal space in order, or even just catch up on sleep. Take some time to do some goal-oriented “spring cleaning.”

5. Head to the Beach

The classic Spring Break trip. Take a few friends, your family, your significant other, or yourself and head to the coast! Whether you’re headed back to sunny California, or staying in Portland, the ocean is always a great place to be. Being that campus is only an hour and a half away from the coast, it makes for a great weekend trip!

Hi! I'm Avery Aresu, a Junior English Major with a Fine Arts minor at the University of Portland. I'm a writer for the Portland chapter of HerCampus and I'm really excited to be part of the team this year. I'm originally from Auburn, WA, but being here in Portland for these past three years has made me fall in love with Oregon. I love nothing more than drawing and painting, and I spend my free time hanging out with friends and my boyfriend, learning new gluten-free recipes, reading classic literature, going on adventures, bouldering, archery, and going to concerts. Portland is the most wonderful place to be, and I'm excited to share more about it! :)
Hailing from eastern Washington, Julia attends the University of Portland in Oregon, as a Communication Studies major with an emphasis on Journalism. As a magazine and book junkie, Julia reads everything (and anything) she can get her hands on, especially those passionate on young adult culture and entertainment. A woman that gets stir-crazy easily, Julia has been fortunate to have traveled many summers in a row to foreign countries, including a study abroad course in Austria, Germany, and Great Britain. Since a ripe age, she has grown and cultivated her passion and dream of working for a magazine and spreading awareness as well as happiness through the tips of her fingers. Always finding time for herself, Julia can frequently be found quoting movie lines (most frequently Will Ferrell or Vince Vaughn), having a 90's dance party with her roommates, or rereading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" for the 40th time.
