Review of Sherry Argov’s book, “Why Men Love B*tches”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl – A Woman’s Guide to Holding Her Own in a Relationship. A more appropriate title might be: The Book That Will Change Your Life.

I read this masterpiece by Sherry Argov in two nights. It is safe to say that, even for the most independent of women, this book will be impossible to put down.

In Why Men Love Bitches, Argov breaks down the many reasons why men walk all over nice girls and somehow love “bitches,” using the term to refer not to a woman who is cold and rude, but to a woman who focuses on herself before any man.

About halfway through reading Why Men Love Bitches, I was already able to pick out specific times in my own relationships with men where I put myself on the back burner in order to make a man happy.

While it was often hard to stomach my own shortcomings in relationships, the advice that Argov provides, from everything to first date etiquette to maintaining a lifelong relationship, really helped me see how I could maintain a romantic relationship without compromising any of my own interests or goals.

After reading Argov’s work, I tried to implement some of her advice in my own love life. It is actually working, just like Argov said it would. I would not hesitate to, and in fact have, recommended this work to all of my female friends, my mom, my sister and everybody I can find that does not already know about it.

A copy of Why Men Love Bitches should sit on every collegiette’s nightstand so she can cite it frequently and when necessary, act like a bitch to ensure that she creates a romantic relationship that will be equal, fun, long lasting and beneficial to both partners. Why? Because men really do love bitches.

Hailing from eastern Washington, Julia attends the University of Portland in Oregon, as a Communication Studies major with an emphasis on Journalism. As a magazine and book junkie, Julia reads everything (and anything) she can get her hands on, especially those passionate on young adult culture and entertainment. A woman that gets stir-crazy easily, Julia has been fortunate to have traveled many summers in a row to foreign countries, including a study abroad course in Austria, Germany, and Great Britain. Since a ripe age, she has grown and cultivated her passion and dream of working for a magazine and spreading awareness as well as happiness through the tips of her fingers. Always finding time for herself, Julia can frequently be found quoting movie lines (most frequently Will Ferrell or Vince Vaughn), having a 90's dance party with her roommates, or rereading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" for the 40th time.
