Meet Emma Englund!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

As a political science major, you had the opportunity to meet the US Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas. What was that experience like?

It was incredible. He was so warm and relatable. I was nervous for about 10 seconds, then I realized that he is not as intimidating as I thought. He had a lot of great advice about working hard and being a good, honest person throughout life that really resonated with me.

What is your dream job?

I would love to be the superintendent of a school district.

What do you love about Portland?

I love the food! There are so many great restaurants around Portland that I love to try. My favorite is probably breakfast places, such as Mother’s on 2nd and Taylor and Pine State Biscuit on Alberta.

What would be the theme song of your life?

“I Believe in Miracles”

What are you looking forward to most about the holidays?

I love going home and spending time with my family. One of my uncles owns a roller-skating rink, so on Christmas Eve we all go there and have a potluck and sing Christmas carols. I can’t wait.

Dorothy Olszyk is a communication studies major at the University of Portland. Her interests are journalism and graphic design. She is from Eugene, OR and she loves her hometown artist Mat Kearney. What Dorothy loves about Portland is the PB&J cart on NW 23rd  St. and the 90's dances at the Crystal Ballroom.
I like places. I like people. I like stories; every place, and every person has a story. I want to write as many stories about that place and those people until the stories run dry. Which is...never. So I will continue to write. Please, tell me a story.
