Celina Pompeani ’13: Anchor/Reporter for WTOV News 9

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

“It’s so cheesy, but never give up on your dreams. If you believe it will happen and you work hard, it will happen.” –Celina Pompeani

Celina Pompeani may be the daughter of Pittsburgh’s own celeb, KDKA’s sports broadcaster, Bob Pompeani, but our campus celeb this week is making her own mark on the world of broadcasting! As one of the newest members of WTOV9 Ohio, Celina reports three days a week and anchors during the 6:00 and 11:00 newscasts on the weekends.

“Last January, I interned for the station, then two weeks into it, there was an opening and I was offered a full-time position,” Pompeani said.

When Celina isn’t looking fabulous on screen reporting news, you can find her in the halls and classrooms of Point Park. That’s right… Pompeani is also a full-time student! As a broadcasting major, Pompeani is taking her final 15 credits so she can graduate this semester. While she said it’s been “rough,” it is not as bad as last semester. Pompeani was taking 19 credits last semester and working full-time, so she had no days off. So in August, she asked her boss if she would work part-time until she graduated. “They were very flexible and worked around my schedule,” Pompeani said. So how does she keep it all together? Celina says her key to success was getting assignments and studying done as soon as tests and homework are assigned.

“I do [my homework] right away and get it done. I don’t like to procrastinate,” she explains. “I also always try to go to bed earlier so I can wake up refreshed for school!”

Another thing that keeps Celina so cheerful and together through her hectic schedule is her belief that people should always have a good attitude. She embraces that by constantly keeping a smile on her face and genuinely complimenting and encouraging others.

So what can we expect from Celina in the future? She says that her dream job is to work on Good Morning America or E! News. While she currently reports hard news and thoroughly enjoys it, reporting entertainment is what she really wants to do! In 10 years, she wants to be working at a Pittsburgh news station, and then hopes to be at a larger, national network like E! in 20 years.

While we’ll certainly miss seeing her smiling face around campus next semester, we can’t wait to see how Celina takes the broadcasting world by storm. Congrats, grad!

I'm Emily, a senior (wow) at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. I love anything that has to do with fashion - epecially shoes and clothes. I am obessed with the art of fashion but I lack in designing talent, so I figured I'd write about it since I enjoy writing so much.
