CAB hosts Point Park’s first annual Health Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

Eva Smith, the head of Health Week’s events, says she was inspired to start the tradition through her love of working out.

Brennan Burke says Health Week is important because it’s a way to learn what you need to stay healthy in your busy, college lifestyle.

Kennedy McCoy is excited for the juice bar, because it’s a way to get essential fruits and vegetables.

Health Week is being held the week of March 21 by the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Smith, the Spirits and Traditions Coordinator is in charge of the events being held.

On Monday, there will be a Freshman 15 lecture in Lawrence Hall (LH) Lobby at one. On Tuesday, a juice bar in the West Penn Lobby at one. On Wednesday, nutritionist Helenkay Smith will be speaking in LH 200 at 6. On Thursday, there will be a spin class hosted by E. Smith in the Student Center (SC) 207 at five. And Friday, there will be a yoga class hosted by Dana Malin in SC at noon.

E. Smith, a junior marketing major, said she chose the events for Health Week based on her love for health. “I just looked at what I do to stay fit everyday, and looked at what’s trending, that’s how I chose what to do. [for Health Week]”

The Freshman 15 Lecture will be held by Resident Educators (REs). They will speak on getting fit and how to lose, or keep off, the freshman 15.

The juice bar will be held by GreenLightJuice. Offering a wide range of juices, from fruit to vegetable.

Nutritionist H. Smith, will be speaking on the importance of diet and exercise. She is an online professor at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC).

The spin class will be hosted by E. Smith. She says “I have a passion for spin and it’s her favorite form of exercise.”

The yoga class will be taught by D. Malin. She teaches at Salt Power Yoga in Sewickley.

“I think Health Week is going to be a big hit,” says Nicole Miller, CABs Public Relations Coordinator. “I’m personally really excited about the juice bar.”

McCoy is also excited for the juice bar. “I find that now that I’m in college, I’m not eating as many fruits and vegetables,” she says. “I think this is a good way to inspire students to eat healthier, to get fit!”

“I’m pumped for all the exercises classes and lectures,” says Burke. “I love exercising, and exploring new ways to get fit and be healthy.”

E. Smith thinks Health Week is a fun way to teach students to be healthy at school, and hopes this tradition will live on for years to come.
