8 Things To Do When Finals Week Gets Tough

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.

It is that time of year again! It is that time when you begin to regret skipping class in favor of sleeping in; that time when you really wished you had dropped that one class because only a miracle could save you right now. That’s right its finals week, the week that is the bane of every college student’s existence, it is literally the ONLY thing separating you and sweet, sweet freedom. Life, unfortunately is never perfect and things tend to happen at the worst possible times but despite the roll coaster of emotions that you going through because something didn’t workout, be it your lost USB drive with your final project, or accidently forgetting to save your final ten page paper. Whatever it may be here are eight things you can when finals aren’t going as planned:

1. Breathe: This works wonders, especially when you are so stressed all you want to do is cry. Just step away from whatever you doing and breathe deeply for a couple seconds before tackling what you are going to do about your problem.

2. Talk a walk or go running: Believe this or not but this significantly lowers your stress levels and makes you think clearer plus you can count it as your exercise for the day (who knows how many hours you have been staring at our computer screen for!)

3. Go out with friends: Chances are they are probably just as stressed as you, go to the movies, go out to eat or just lazy around together and watch some Netflix

3. Go watch a sporting event: celebrate school pride or Pittsburgh pride by going to a game. If you live anywhere like Pittsburgh where pride for a sports team seem to flow through a veins then it super easy to fid super cheap tickets to one of the games that happen almost everyday. Trust me even if you aren’t a huge sport person, going to one is still totally worth it.

4. Take a nap:  This doesn’t even need an explanation.

5. Cry: Let it all out. You can cry into the shoulder of your best friend or on the phone with your mom or by yourself but it needs to be done. You will always feel better after a good cry session. Trust me when I say it is better to get the tears out now rather than in the middle of your final exam when you have a mini breakdown. Cry and then move forward with a lighter soul.

6. Email your teacher: SO maybe you aren’t on the best of terms with your teacher, I get that but trust me when I say chances are they are more than willing to help you with whatever dilemma you are experiencing. Believe it or not your teacher actually wants you succeed and by you reaching out to them for help, it definitely puts you in a better light (plus it also might motivate your teacher to actually help you).

7. Finish your paper or whatever: That’s right, you actually have to finish that project or paper that was stressing you out but best believe the moment you sit down in front of your computer screen you actually get work done. It is like someone turned on an engine in your brain or flipped a switch and that paper you thought you would never finish is being printed.

Regardless of what struggles are happening to you now you will make it through and you will finish. March on! Begin the final countdown to freedom!
