HC Pitt’s Top 5 April Fools Day Pranks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

It’s that time of year again! In the spirit of the goofiest “holiday” of the year, we here at HC Pitt shared some of the most outrageous April Fools Day pranks that we’ve carried out, heard about, or fallen victim to. Looking to up your April Fools game this year? See if you can top any of these savage jokesters.

1. Hair Scare

My best friend told me she burnt some of her hair off when she was cooking and sent me a picture of cut off hair lying on the floor. She said she was on her way to the hospital because part of her neck was burnt and then sent me a picture of that, too. Obviously both of the pictures were fake ones that she found on the internet, but she also had our other 3 best friends in on it in our group chat, so everyone was going along with it, and I was the only one who didn’t know the truth for a few hours.”

2. Ladder Disaster

“My mom convinced my brother and sister that she fell off a ladder. She left a ladder laying on its side in the front room and Tylenol and an ice pack on the table next to her. When they walked in she pretended to be asleep with a fake cast/brace on her arm and they totally believed her for a while.”

3. A Pow(d)erful Ceiling Fan

“My old friend’s brother put baby powder on her ceiling fan when she went to school and when she came home she turned her fan on and it went EVERYWHERE. What was even worse was that she had some drawers and her closet open so it got in most of her clothes.”

4. Hail to…Michigan?

“Last year, my sister and I concocted a plan to email my whole family (aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents, cousins) and tell them that I’ve decided to transfer to the University of Michigan. My three cousins go there, and my family loves Michigan, so we thought it would be funny. I wrote a whole email about how I was unhappy with the writing major at Pitt, not academically challenged here, and that I’d already talked to the Her Campus at Michigan, and I could be their president. Within 15 minutes, I received a voicemail from my aunt, whose sons go there, saying how excited she was and that she was “floored” that I was transferring. She was so mad and embarrassed when I broke the news [that I was kidding] to all of them!”

 5. Texting Tricksters

“Freshman year of college, two of my friends (we can call them Friend A and Friend B) and I set up this whole scheme to trick our other friend (Friend C) into thinking that Friend A’s boyfriend broke up with her. We changed my name in Friend A’s phone to her boyfriend’s name (he was in on it too and gave us permission to make him seem like an a**hole) and we sent a series of texts back and forth to make it seem like he broke up with her over text. Well, we stationed Friend A in the bathroom and had her pretend to be crying while Friend B was “comforting her” for when Friend C (who was completely unaware of our little plan) showed up. So Friend C comes into the bathroom and is like “Oh my god I am so sorry!!! I can’t even believe he broke up with you, where did this even come from?!” A few minutes later, Friend A came out of the stall and busted out laughing and we all screamed “APRIL FOOLS!!!”. Friend C got so mad that we had tricked her that she threw her phone into the air and it fell to the floor and shattered into a zillion pieces. It was so evil and so epic all at the same time.”
