Cute Ways to Keep in Touch with Friends over the Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

It can be tough to leave your friends from school for the entire summer. Much like initially coming to college and leaving your high school friends behind, it can get a little lonely to leave your college friends, especially if you’re living in a new city for a job or internship this summer. Luckily, there are tons of ways to keep in touch with friends, so hopefully this article provides some inspo with the best ways to keep in touch with friends!

Writing Letters

Writing letters seems a little old-fashioned, but nothing feels better than opening your mailbox and seeing a handwritten letter from a friend. Pick a friend or two to pen-pal with over the summer and stock up on those stamps!

Sending Postcards

At the start of our sophomore year of college, my friend from high school and I started sending each other colored postcards, and we’ve kept it up for two years now. Every week, we color a postcard, sum up our week, and send them out on Fridays so they arrive by Monday/Tuesday. It’s so nice to hear about what she’s doing at her school, and I have something to look forward to every Monday!

Facetiming

Facetiming is a classic way to keep in touch with friends you’ll find yourself missing over the summer. There’s nothing quite like seeing the face of a loved one and hearing their voice as if they’re there.

Texting

Texting sounds basic, and for some, it’s tough to find the chance to respond if you’re working or otherwise busy all day. If you’re not super into texting, one way to keep in touch through text is to send a short description of your “rose and thorn” everyday: the rose is best part of your day, and the thorn is the worst part of your day. It’s a short summary that gets the conversation going, and it keeps your loved ones filled in on what you’re up to!

Plan a Trip

Even if you aren’t living in the same city, getting together with friends is so much fun, especially after a long time apart. Try to plan a time when you and your friends can meet up and take some kind of trip so you have something to look forward to!

Send a Care Package!

Nobody has ever been unhappy to receive a care package! A care package is a really cute and personal way to let your friends know you’re thinking about them. This would definitely brighten anyone’s day.

We all know that smoke signals, carrier pigeons, and morse code are some other solid ways to keep in touch, but hopefully these ways to keep in touch come in handy for you and your friends this summer!
