Contiki: The Opportunity of a Lifetime

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

What is the point of college? As a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh I find myself pondering this question more often than I’d personally like to admit. Well there’s the obvious point: In hopes of attending a university you’ll eventually graduate with a degree in a field that will allow you to pursue a successful career. So basically, after spending thousands of dollars on tuition, hundreds of hours in the library, and countless periods of time stressing over information you’ll most likely never use, what do you actually end up with? When you walk across that stage at graduation, what do you receive? I’ll tell ya: a piece of paper, stating your accomplishments. I am not undermining this incredible achievement, because I myself worry that I’ll never make it there, but that’s what it is… a sheet that lists your successes. What about what’s beneath the surface of college composed of pressure, competition and work? What makes your time in college different from any other you have ever had? The answer: your experiences.

In 1961, John Anderson from New Zealand traveled to London to go on a journey through Europe. With the little money he had, he decided to put a deposit on a minibus and gathered a group of people to travel with. They spent the next twelve weeks exploring all of Europe, and from his spontaneous decision on means of travel came the beginning of Contiki.  With its cheap means of travel and incentive to meet new people, Contiki was all about youth travel from the start.

In the articles to come, I’ll go into more detail about why Contiki is by far the best agency to go through when traveling as an 18-35 year old, but let me lay down the main points. Contiki offers trips in 46 countries and 8 regions, so wherever your dream destination is, Contiki will take you there! As young adults, money is hard to come by. Once we graduate college, free time to travel will be even harder to find. Take advantage of the affordability and convenience of Contiki. Not only do they have options for any type of vacationer (nature lovers, adventure junkies, etc.), but they map out your every move even allowing you to have free time to explore on your own. If you’re looking to travel, choose Contiki and let the fun begin. After all, a vacation is about enjoying yourself, not causing more stress in your life by trying to plan an entire trip.
