It’s springtime! The temperature has finally gone over 50 degrees so it’s time to go outside and soak up the sun. Recently, my roommate and I made what we have labeled an “adventure bag” so we can grab it and go when it’s nice out and we can enjoy the sun for a bit between classes at Schenley or Cathy’s Lawn. We’ve found it extremely helpful to have it prepared instead of haphazardly throwing things together and realizing we forgot items after we’ve set-up. I highly recommend making your own for the upcoming nice days and to make it easy here are some of the must-haves.

Hammock

A college essential. I definitely recommend purchasing one if you haven’t already because nothing is better than being able to relax and swing between two trees. While some hammocks can be on the pricier side, more affordable options are sold at Target or Amazon and they work just as well for casual hammocking!

Water Bottle

It’s super important to stay hydrated when you’re out in the sun! Even when you’re relaxing and not doing physical activity, take care of yourself and drink some water. Your body needs it! Just fill up a reusable (because we love the planet) bottle before you head out for your day outside.

Snacks

And what is a good day without food? Perhaps the best part of this whole bag is a variety of snacks. I like to cut up fruit and throw it in a container, but it’s also great to grab some granola bars on your way out. Nothing is worse than setting up in a perfect spot and realizing you’re hungry, so make sure to grab some fuel!

Frisbee

For when you don’t feel like just sitting, playing frisbee is a great option! It’s super simple to pick up, affordable and doesn’t take up much space in a bag. It’s also nice because there’s no limit to how many people can play!

A good book

What’s better than curling up in a hammock with a good book? I’ve found that I have so little time to read for my own enjoyment between classes, but when I’m outside it’s the perfect situation. A book takes up such little space and can keep you entertained for hours!

Blanket

If a hammock is too much of a hassle, a nice picnic blanket works well too! Picnic blankets are also great for groups of people when not everyone can fit in the two-person hammock! Also, blankets for warmth can be nice too for when it’s cloudy or a bit chilly outside.

Bag

And last but certainly not least, you need the bag itself to put all of the essentials in. Remember this doesn’t have to be anything fancy! I find that a big tote bag works best but really anything easy to carry and fits everything is perfect! Happy adventuring!
