Tips for a Great Waves Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pepperdine chapter.

Waves Weekend is finally here! While many of you may be excited to see your parents, it can often be daunting trying to brainstorm ideas of what to do with them. After all, they are coming to visit you in your new home. You want to impress them with your knowledge of the incredibly gorgeous place we call home. However, with its lack of a nightlife and student activities, it can sometimes feel as if Malibu doesn’t have much more to offer (other than its incredible sunset and beach views, of course). One of the perks of having parents in town, though, is that they will often treat you to nicer dinners than your regular Chipotle. While we may often opt for it when going out with friends, it is nice to go elsewhere every now and then… We know L.A. offers a great variety of restaurants, but with so many events going on at the Malibu campus, it is simply more convenient to explore the restaurants Malibu has to offer. You’d be surprised at how great some of these are!

1. Nobu Malibu: This restaurant has built up its reputation throughout the years with its other locations. It is known for its great seafood and often frequented by celebrities; the Malibu restaurant also provides customers with incredible ocean views, so be sure to make a reservation at a time before the sun sets.

2. Mr. Chow: This is a great option for those who like trendy restaurants; with its mostly white interior and the amazing take on Chinese cuisine, it will surely not disappoint.

3. Geoffrey’s: Nestled in the heart of Malibu, this restaurant provides great food and breathtaking views. It is a bit isolated from other commercial places, so customers are able to enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach it overlooks. Geoffrey’s has been in this city for nearly 70 years, and it has remained one of the most well-reputed restaurants in Malibu.

4. Ollo: This restaurant is still fairly new to the Malibu community, and it tends to be busy on any given night. This isn’t surprising, as the menu provides an array of options and the place also has a warm ambiance. It is also conveniently located just a five-minute drive from Pepperdine.

5. Casa Escobar: This is the Mexican restaurant in Malibu. Students are particularly familiar with its Taco Tuesdays, but it also has many other items on the menu that will satisfy customers on all days of the week.

6. The Sunset: This restaurant seems to be frequented less often by Pepperdine students. However, it is actually right across the street from a beach, so it makes a great place for Sunday brunch; you can eat with the family and then spend some time on the sand!

7. Paradise Cove: This restaurant provides a relaxed environment that also caters well to larger groups. Customers also have direct access to the beach, and often hang around there before or after eating. Bonus: You will have many fun photo ops!

8. Duke’s: This is the quintessential Malibu restaurant, and you will likely run into other Pepperdine students while there. It is also a good option for larger groups, but keep in mind that it fills up quickly.

No matter where you take your parents, keep in mind that they are here to see you! Just have fun and enjoy their time here!
