Meet Nouba! The New Her Campus Pepperdine Mascot

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pepperdine chapter.

Meet Nouba!

She’s an eight year-old maltese who is super friendly and loves making new friends. She lived in Texas for the first seven years of her life before moving out to Malibu for a new adventure. Since then, she has explored many different places and made a significant amount of new friends.

Many people wonder what the name “Nouba” means. Well, it’s an alternative to the Spanish name for cloud, “nube.” However, it was inspired by the Cirque du Soleil show in the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, La Nouba. My sisters and I figured it would give a whimsical aspect to her name. This turned out to be a great decision considering her playful nature.

A few months ago, Nouba visited the beach for the first time, and she absolutely loved it! At first, she was afraid to approach the unfamiliar sand, but once I picked her up and just placed her on it, she could not get enough of it! She had a blast running around and sticking her nose into the sand. Yes, Nouba has great taste. She has definitely learned the valuable life lesson that life is a beach.

Nouba adores spending time with her cousin, Shakira the toy poodle! They get into some sticky situations sometimes… Some of Nouba’s other hobbies include munching on Greenies, playing with her fluffy bone-shaped toys, lounging on throw pillows, and cuddling. She also loves discovering the next best spot for her indispensable naps. She often opts for high places, or for a comfy spot where she can curl up into a little furry ball.

She loves peanut butter and hates flying on airplanes. However, she does enjoy car rides, and particularly likes to stick most of her body out of the window and enjoy the breeze that brushes through her fur.

Some of her favorite spots in the L.A. area include Abbot Kinney in Venice, the Country Mart in Malibu, and the Promenade in Santa Monica. She enjoys people watching, and thinks humans can be strange creatures. Once, one human decided to braid the fur on her ears, so her feelings are understandable.

At the end of the day, though, she loves her human, and her human loves her.

I'm a Pepperdine University senior from Texas. I'm a Leo, a total dog lover, and an avid reader. Spanish is my first language, so I am bilingual and working on being trilingual (I just need to turn my conversational French into fluent French). I love to write; it's a way of life!
