After a month here at Pace, I’ve gone through many emotions. I feel that there are pros and cons to everything. Pace has a lot to offer and a lot of things to do. My career at Pace began when I moved in seven days before everyone. Right after moving in, I was taken on a retreat with my Leadership Program and let’s just say… the first day was hard. We were up in the mountains, in the middle of nowhere, with absolutely no cell phone service or civilization in sight. I remember feeling so alone that first day because I just moved away from home, I didn’t know anyone, and I couldn’t even communicate with my friends or family because I had no service. However, as the hours went by, everyone got to know each other. I feel that since the days were so jam-packed with activities and bonding exercises, we all ended up becoming one big happy family. By midnight that first day all awkwardness was eliminated as we helped each other out during our midnight hike (with no flashlights because we were supposed to be one with nature). All I remember was hearing “I lost my shoe,” “OMG I’m covered in mud,” and “someone lost their sock!” it was a scary but fun experience and honestly, I would go through it again.

We returned to campus three days later. Needless to say, the next couple of days were blissful and full of Netflix and relaxation. Fast forward to everyone moving in: that day I met my roommate and suite mates. We did everything together the first two weeks of college. It was really fun going to all the events and trying to get to know everyone. I joined a couple of clubs such as Disney Fan Club, POWER, Pride, OLAS, Pace Cooks & Bakes, and of course, Her Campus. So far, I have enjoyed five out of six of my classes and have gone to at least two club meetings for each club. I never expected college to be so jam-packed. I expected to have more time to go to club meetings and attend fun events. However, I have come to realize that most of my time is spent doing homework. I wish that I could spend more time going to clubs and attending more games. But, so far college has been great.

I love going to my classes. I love going to as many club meetings as I can. I love attending some of the events. I love having study sessions in the library with my best friend and homework parties in my dorm. But most of all, I love the independence that comes with being in college. I do have down moments to be honest. Some days are not so great and some days are just completely annoying. I feel that college has really taught me how to be patient. I deal with so many things and people that I’m surprised I haven’t ended up bald yet. We’re almost at the conclusion of month two and I can honestly say, no mental breakdowns have occurred (there were venting sessions though). My dorm room has turned into the chill zone where my friends just walk in and tell me what dumb situation they got themselves into that week. It is a place where I watch movie with friends, pull pranks, stuff our faces, and laugh till we’ve ruptured every organ in our bodies.

I am still a freshman and my time at Pace has just begun and I am going to experience more happy moments, more sad moments, more annoyed moments, but I know that as long as I don’t end up in the hospital (like some of my fellow classmates on day one), I’ll be okay. Now on a completely different note: DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR MIDTERM ELECTIONS! YOUR VOICE MATTERS!
