Melody Dahlgren ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxy chapter.

Name: Melody Dahlgren

Year: Sophomore

Major: Politics, plus an art history minor (first time making public!!)

What do you do to get involved on campus?
I choreograph for Dance Pro and dance for the show as well. I also help plan fundraisers and social events. I’m pretty much very involved with Dance Pro (laughs). I was also an Oxy engage leader this past summer, which was a blast.

I have also volunteered with Vote for Equality (VFE, an organization which helps to spread the word and increase political support for the LGBT community), through canvassing and phone banking. I plan to continue working with VFE in the future.

I heard you went abroad this winter to Italy though Oxy’s art history class, Major Figures in the Italian Renaissance. Describe the experience.
Yes! I did it was amazing—it was such an incredible experience to be there with my classmates and professor and be able to see and talk about all the works we learned about in class over the semester. We also were able to apply the knowledge we developed in class to other art that we saw, and hadn’t learned about in class. Also, you can’t forget about all that delicious food and amazing things there are to see. And you know, fall in love a bit.

What are some of your favorite things about Oxy?
The professors, and that I’ve been able to take a variety of classes that fulfill all of my different interests. And learning from other students in my classes—that’s one of my favorite things, I feel like my classmates have such insightful things to say and I grow a lot from that.
