On Friday April 20th, Oxy had its 125th anniversary! First off, the weather this weekend was prime for Founder’s Day festivities. The campus was crowded with alumni, students, and families participating in the Founder’s Day celebration. To kick off Oxy’s 125th year as the first liberal arts college of Los Angeles, an 1887-style carnival was held in the Quad, which was really exciting. None of my professors had canceled class or made attendance optional like some other professors, but my CSP professor changed her mind and let us out early when she saw the carnival outside. There were booths with free food, games, henna, and even a ferris wheel set up. Speakers also came to campus throughout the day and Occidental’s renovated Swan Hall and new Samuelson Alumni Center were finally on display to the public.
