Going to college, in general, is very scary, especially since it’s usually people’s first time leaving home. But transferring schools can be even scarier; people usually have their friends already and it can be very nerve-wracking and stressful. But in the end, it’s worth it. It opens up so many new doors and opportunities for you to explore and friendships for you to make. I transferred into SUNY Oswego last semester and it was probably the best decision I have ever made. You have to go in with an open mind and be ready to push yourself out of your comfort zone, but it always makes you feel proud of yourself and happy that you did it. Make sure to join clubs to meet people, and talk to people in your classes, especially the people who live around you. All it takes is for one person to change your experience and introduce you to a whole new world of friends, experiences, and memories. In the beginning, it may be scary and you may be having second thoughts but I can assure you that in a couple of weeks you will have forgotten about all those feelings and will only be thinking about all the good times you have had with your new-found friends. So many people transfer schools because they aren’t happy with the one they were at originally. Don’t feel embarrassed at all, be excited to gain new experiences and start a new chapter in your life. One of my favorite quotes that my mom has always told me and that has really gotten me through is “Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine.” – Roy T. Bennett. Just like what the quote says, you are capable of anything you set your mind to as long as you persevere and put your best foot forward.
