SUNY Oswego Cheer Club

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

The cheerleaders at SUNY Oswego have been
preparing for College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida sinceSeptember 2011. The team practices each week and fundraised non-stop  in order to compete. The club has 18 girls who have been cheering for basically their whole life. Girls have to try out in either the spring or fall semester to make it on the team.

Nationals is a competition against various teams from all over the U.S. The Oswego State
cheerleaders are in the division 3 all-girl. The team has to send in a skills video in order to qualify for Nationals in April. The Oswego cheer team competes against teams like Elmira, Cortland, and Erie Community College etc. The competition starts on Thursday April 11th and depending on how good each team does allows them the chance to compete at finals the next day.

Finals are located right on Daytona Beach in front of a large audience. The mat stretches across the sand with dozens of screaming fans and ESPN camera crews surrounding the area. The Oswego State Cheerleaders hope to make it to finals this year to compete right on the beach. Be sure to wish the team good luck before they set out on their journey
to Florida
next week on April 10th. Here are some pictures of the teamdoing volunteer work, skills on beach at last year’s Nationals, and recent team competitions.

I am from a small town outside of Syracuse, New York. In high school, I ran Cross Country and track where I competed in the 100m hurdles, 4x1, 200m and many other events. I now attend SUNY Oswego and I am majoring in journalism and anthropology. I have recently added a minor in health science because of my passion for health and fitness. Last semester, I wrote a health and fitness blog for Her Campus Oswego. I currently work as a personal trainer on campus. I love readings, writing, skiing, running, and I am a major shop-aholic! KM <3
