Michael Beshures

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

The technology education department at Oswego State is known for being pretty diverse. As a senior with a major in technology education, Michael Beshures really feels like a jack-of-all-trades. But for Beshures, who may be known to others as “pink skateboard guy,” “beard guy,” or “ukulele guy,” “tech ed. Major” is just one of his many roles on campus.

If you have ever been to Open Mic Night on a Thursday night at Lake Effect Café, you could not have missed Beshures. He is a singer, song-writer and co-host with friend Matt Buluyot.

Beshures plays ukulele, guitar, melodica, and a bit of accordion. He just entered a video into the Bushman World Ukulele contest, and he is known for his fun, inspiring and original songs.

Beshures quoted a line from his song “We are love, we are one in the same, and the universe is our name.”

“I don’t think that every song has to be about how sad and miserable you are or some girl you miss. I think that music runs through the whole gamut of emotions,” Beshures says.

Beshures has always had an interest in music; he sang in high school and participated in musicals. His love for technology also became evident in high school. In the future, he plans to become a technology teacher, which will also satisfy the love he has for working with kids.

In his home of Webster, New York, Beshures taught swim lessons, volunteered at a summer camp where he taught kids to water-ski, volunteered at a summer science program where he taught kids about rocketry aerodynamics, and even devotes some time to work as a respite care provider.

Beshures will surely be happy with whatever his future brings him.

“I may not even end up getting a job in technology, I may end up just doing something working with kids,” he says.

But for now, he is focusing on school and his Thursday night go-to, open mic. Catch him at the Lake Effect Café in the near future for an Ugly Sweater themed show.

Kaitlin Provost graduated from SUNY Oswego, majoring in journalism with a learning agreement in photography. She grew up in five different towns all over the Northeast, eventually settling and graduating from high school in Hudson, Massachusetts. Kait now lives in the blustery town of Oswego, New York, where she can frequently be found running around like a madwoman, avoiding snow drifts taller than her head (which, incidentally, is not very tall). She has worked for her campus newspaper, The Oswegonian, as the Assistant News Editor, and is also the President of the Oswego chapter of Ed2010, a national organization which helps students break into the magazine industry. She hopes to one day work for National Geographic and travel the world.
