Go Pink for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and pink can be seen all around. Millions of people are affected each year by breast cancer and this month helps bring knowledge to this type of  cancer.

People all over the country have been raising money for the cause, including at Oswego State. In the past, Oswego has held events to raise awareness.

Last year, Oswego held its annual “Passionately Pink for the Cure,” which is a campaign to raise money for research. The event raised $3,819.50 from donations, a drawing for gift baskets and the Fitness Centers’ Great Pumpkin Run.

The athletic teams have also been raising money. This past week, the women’s volleyball team held a “Dig Pink” event. The players wore pink jerseys, while the gymnasium was decorated in pink, including pink balloons. Fans could donate $3 and receive a cup and drawstring bag, and all of the proceeds went to breast cancer awareness. The team also raffled off gift baskets. The men’s soccer team held a similar event last week.

There are many ways to get involved with the fight against breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure website has a button you can click to make a donation. We spend plenty of time online; it only takes one easy click to help change a life. Throughout October, places all around will have events and spots to donate.

I'm a junior. I like to read, watch T.V. and sleep. Aaaand that's it.
Kaitlin Provost graduated from SUNY Oswego, majoring in journalism with a learning agreement in photography. She grew up in five different towns all over the Northeast, eventually settling and graduating from high school in Hudson, Massachusetts. Kait now lives in the blustery town of Oswego, New York, where she can frequently be found running around like a madwoman, avoiding snow drifts taller than her head (which, incidentally, is not very tall). She has worked for her campus newspaper, The Oswegonian, as the Assistant News Editor, and is also the President of the Oswego chapter of Ed2010, a national organization which helps students break into the magazine industry. She hopes to one day work for National Geographic and travel the world.
